Bulgaria

Explore Bulgaria startup, work permit, EU Blue Card, company setup, tax registration, family, Schengen residence, and relocation alternatives.

Bulgaria is an EU member state and became a full Schengen member on January 1, 2025. Bulgaria adopted the euro on January 1, 2026. It does not have a dedicated digital nomad visa; remote workers usually need to assess whether the StartUp Visa certificate route, employment, company activity, family residence, visitor stay, or another residence basis actually fits.

For employer-backed employment, Bulgaria’s core routes include the Single Residence and Work Permit for ordinary local employment and the EU Blue Card for highly qualified work where salary reaches at least 1.5 times the Bulgarian average salary.
