Bulgaria’s StartUp Visa route has two proof layers: the innovation certificate and the later visa/residence file. Treat them separately.

For route fit, start with the main Bulgaria guide. For Commercial Register setup, VAT, corporate tax, and accounting evidence, use the tax and business setup guide.

Residence Sequence

The official e-government page says the StartUp Visa certificate is not a type of residence visa. It is a certificate that can be used as one document supporting a residence-permit basis.

That means the sequence should be planned like this:

StepPractical Meaning
Certificate approvalProject accepted as high-tech and/or innovative
Visa or entry analysisDepends on nationality, current location, and Bulgarian rules
Residence filingSeparate migration file using the certificate as support
Company operationBusiness setup and records should match the approved project
RenewalResidence and business evidence must stay coherent

Common File Problems

Generic freelancingOrdinary client work is a weak fit
Missing personal funds evidenceThe ministry list includes bank or equivalent proof
No Bulgaria linkLocal partners, operations, and company setup can matter
Thin renewal recordsThe business must remain real after approval
