Cyprus’s employee route choice usually starts with three questions: whether the role is ordinary local employment, whether the employer is a company of foreign interests, and whether the role fits Cyprus’s narrow EU Blue Card framework.
For structured route records, see Cyprus Remunerated Employment Single Permit and Cyprus EU Blue Card. Remote workers should start with the Cyprus digital nomad visa guide, because that route is not Cyprus local employment.
Quick Answer
Use the Cyprus EU Blue Card first where the role is highly qualified, salary is at least EUR 43,632/year, and the job is in one of the listed sectors: ICT, pharmacy for research purposes, or maritime work excluding captains and ship crew.
Use the remunerated employment single permit where the role is ordinary Cyprus employment outside the Blue Card sector/salary framework. If the employer is a qualifying company of foreign interests and the role is highly paid, also check that separate policy, because it can remove the labour-market check for highly paid third-country staff.

Cyprus Timing Caution
The European Commission EU Immigration Portal page dated April 1, 2025 still says Cyprus was not yet issuing EU Blue Cards because admission volumes were zero. Cyprus later announced that applications would be accepted from July 7, 2025, and the Migration Department’s current English Blue Card page sets eligible sectors and the EUR 43,632 salary threshold. For current Cyprus files, use the Cyprus Migration Department page as the controlling public route source and treat the EU portal as historical context.
Decision Tree
| Starting Fact | Better First Route To Check |
|---|---|
| Role is ICT, pharma research, or eligible maritime work and salary reaches EUR 43,632/year | EU Blue Card |
| Role is ordinary local employment outside the listed Blue Card sectors | Remunerated employment single permit |
| Employer is a qualifying company of foreign interests and salary is at least EUR 2,500/month | Foreign-interest company employment policy |
| Employer needs supportive-level staff | Single permit route with labour-market check |
| Worker is employed abroad and works remotely from Cyprus | Digital nomad visa, not local employment |
| Family reunification and EU mobility are central | EU Blue Card, if sector and salary rules fit |
