Cyprus’s Digital Nomad Visa timeline is built around post-arrival filing. The applicant normally enters Cyprus legally first, then submits the residence permit application within 3 months of arrival.
For eligibility, start with the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa guide. For evidence preparation, use the documents checklist.
Quick Answer
Plan for lawful entry, document preparation, filing at the Migration Department’s central offices in Nicosia within 3 months of arrival, biometrics, and an official examination time of 5 to 7 weeks. The first temporary residence permit is valid for one year. Renewal applications should be submitted at least one month before expiry and may result in a permit valid for up to two further years.
Timeline Summary
| Stage | Timing | Main Risk |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Cap check | Before travel | 500-permit ceiling |
| 2. Eligibility check | Before travel | Cyprus client or local work conflict |
| 3. Document preparation | Before and after arrival | Certification and translation defects |
| 4. Lawful entry | Before filing | Wrong entry route or overstaying |
| 5. Residence filing | Within 3 months of arrival | Late filing |
| 6. Biometrics | At or after submission | Missing passport or receipt |
| 7. Examination | 5 to 7 weeks | Incomplete file |
| 8. First permit | 1 year | Missing renewal calendar |
| 9. Renewal | At least 1 month before expiry | Late renewal or stale evidence |
Fees
| Fee Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Issuance of temporary residence permit | EUR 70 |
| Renewal of temporary residence permit | EUR 70 |
| Aliens’ Registry registration, initial registration only where applicable | EUR 70 |
The official fee list on the digital-nomad information page is compact. Applicants should still budget for translations, certifications, medical tests if requested by the supporting-document list, health insurance, accommodation evidence, travel, and professional help if using an authorised representative.
Application Timing
The Migration Department says the application must be filed within 3 months of arrival, together with the required documents, at the central offices of the Department in Nicosia.
Applicants already legally resident in Cyprus under another status may apply from within Cyprus if they meet the digital-nomad requirements.
Biometrics
Biometrics are part of residence permit issuance. The applicant must provide a photo, fingerprints, and signature. Children under age 6 provide only a photo. Biometrics may be captured with the application submission or later, depending on the procedure.
Renewal Timing
Renewal applications should be filed with the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Nicosia at least one month before the temporary residence permit expires.
The first permit is valid for one year. A renewed permit can be valid for a maximum of two years, so the practical programme horizon is up to three years.
Timeline Planning Notes
- Do not wait until the third month to discover a document needs legalisation.
- Treat the 5 to 7 week examination time as a planning baseline, not a travel guarantee.
- Keep the renewal calendar separate from the permit card collection date.
- Recheck the forms page before filing because the current form is listed there.
- If family members apply, align their file timing with the main applicant’s permit period.
