Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa

Cyprus’s Digital Nomad Visa Scheme is a temporary residence route for non-EU and non-EEA nationals who work remotely from Cyprus for an employer registered abroad, or as self-employed people serving clients located abroad.

The route is attractive because it is simple on paper: a one-year first permit, possible renewal for up to two further years, family residence for a spouse or civil partner and minor children, and an official examination time of 5 to 7 weeks. It is also capped, so availability matters.

Application Flow

1. Confirm non-EU/non-EEA nationality and lawful entry route.
2. Confirm that all work is remote and foreign-sourced.
3. Check whether the 500-permit cap is still open.
4. Prepare employment or self-employment evidence, income proof, insurance, accommodation, criminal-record and family documents.
5. Enter Cyprus legally if applying after arrival.
6. File at the Migration Department in Nicosia within 3 months of arrival, or while already legally resident under another status.
7. Provide biometrics for the temporary residence permit.
8. Renew at least one month before expiry if staying longer.

Good Fit

This route is strongest for remote employees, freelancers, and foreign-company operators with stable non-Cyprus income above EUR 3,500 net/month, a clear paper trail, and a plan to spend one to three years in Cyprus without local clients or employment.

Poor Fit

It is usually a poor fit for EU or EEA citizens, applicants with Cyprus-based clients, families where dependants need local work rights, people who need Schengen residence mobility, or anyone who cannot file quickly after arrival.
