Timeline At A Glance

Who It Is For

The route is for a third-country national who is employed or performs work through communication technology for a company or their own company that is not registered in Croatia and does not perform work or provide services to employers in Croatia.

This definition is strict. A remote worker serving Croatian employers or clients should not treat this as a general self-employment permit.

Duration And Limits

Temporary stay can be granted for up to 18 months, and sometimes for less. If a stay is granted for less than 18 months, MUP says an extension application can be filed not later than 60 days before expiry, with the extension granted for a maximum of 6 months.

A new digital nomad stay application can be submitted 6 months after the previous temporary stay expires. That waiting period also applies after temporary stay for digital nomads, other purposes, family reunification, or life partnership with a digital nomad.

Income And Funds

MUP currently lists EUR 3,622.50/month as the minimum monthly amount. Alternatively, applicants can show available funds for the intended stay, including EUR 43,470 for 12 months or EUR 65,205 for 18 months.

Good Fit / Poor Fit

Good fit if:

• the work is fully foreign-source and remote;
• the applicant has strong income or savings evidence;
• the move is temporary by design;
• accommodation and Croatian address registration can be handled quickly.

Poor fit if:

• the applicant needs Croatian employers or clients;
• the applicant wants an immediate permanent residence path;
• the funds threshold is tight;
• the applicant cannot obtain legalised criminal-record proof in time.
