Croatia’s digital nomad temporary stay file is manageable if you separate it into identity, insurance, work purpose, funds, criminal-record, and address evidence.

Start with the main Croatia Digital Nomad Temporary Stay guide if you are still checking eligibility. Use the timeline and costs guide to plan when each document is needed.

Identity And Form Documents

If applying in person, MUP says Form 1a should be completed. Online filing is also available.

The passport copy should be clear, and the passport should remain valid for at least 3 months longer than the intended stay. If the intended stay is long, check passport validity before paying for insurance or translations.

Health Insurance

MUP requires proof of health insurance for the period the applicant plans to be in Croatia. Travel or private health insurance must cover the territory of Croatia.

The policy should clearly show the insured person, coverage period, territory, and basic medical cover. Keep the wording simple enough for a case worker to confirm Croatia coverage.

Remote Work Proof

MUP lists several ways to prove purpose:

Work SituationEvidence To Prepare
Foreign employeeEmployment contract or employer statement proving remote work through communication technology
Foreign contractorService contract with a foreign employer/client
Own foreign companyCompany registration and proof that work is performed through that company

The evidence should not suggest work for Croatian employers or Croatian clients.

Funds Proof

MUP accepts bank statements showing the full amount required for the intended stay, bank statements showing regular income in the required monthly amount, or payslips for at least 6 months.

The current monthly amount is EUR 3,622.50. For a 12-month stay, MUP lists EUR 43,470 available. For an 18-month stay, it lists EUR 65,205 available.

Criminal-Record Proof

Applicants need proof that they have not been convicted of criminal offences from their home country or a country where they resided for more than 1 year immediately before arriving in Croatia.

MUP says this must be a legalised document. It does not need to be submitted together with an application for extension of temporary stay.

Address Evidence

The application requires an address in Croatia or intended stay address. If it is the first application and the applicant does not yet have Croatian housing, MUP says a temporary address such as a hostel or hotel reservation can be used as the intended stay address.

After arrival, proper temporary residence address registration still has to be completed.
