Latvia Remote Work Visa

Latvia’s remote work route is a national long-stay D visa for third-country nationals who can work remotely while staying in Latvia and who are employed or self-employed in an OECD member state.

It is a visa route, not a local employment route. Remote work visa holders are not entitled to employment in the Republic of Latvia. Investors should compare the separate Latvia Investor Residence Permit.

Application Flow

1. Confirm third-country nationality and check any nationality-specific restrictions.
2. Confirm that the employer or self-employment registration is in an OECD member state.
3. Verify the latest income benchmark from OCMA or Central Statistical Bureau-linked figures.
4. Prepare passport, visa form, photo, insurance, Latvian accommodation, income, and employment or self-employment proof.
5. Submit through the competent Latvian representation or OCMA route indicated for the applicant’s situation.
6. Pay the long-stay visa fee and respond to any prior-consultation or document requests.
7. Enter or stay in Latvia under the D visa.
8. Before expiry, decide whether to request a repeat remote-work visa, switch to another eligible residence route, or leave.

Good Fit

This route is strongest for remote workers with stable OECD-country employment or self-employment, clear six-month income evidence, and a temporary Latvia plan of up to one or two years.

Poor Fit

It is usually a poor fit for applicants who work for non-OECD employers, need Latvian clients or local employment, want to bring family under the same visa strategy, or want a direct long-term settlement route from day one.
