Estonia Digital Nomad Visa

Estonia’s Digital Nomad Visa lets eligible remote workers stay temporarily in Estonia while working location-independently for a foreign employer, foreign company, or mostly foreign clients.

It is a visa route, not e-Residency and not a residence permit. E-Residency can help with digital business administration, but it gives no residence or travel rights.

Application Flow

1. Confirm that the work is location-independent and uses telecommunications technology.
2. Choose C visa or D visa based on intended stay.
3. Prepare standard visa documents plus digital nomad proof.
4. Apply through an Estonian representation, authorised VFS office, or Police and Border Guard office if legally in Estonia.
5. Wait for visa processing and background checks.
6. Enter or remain in Estonia under the issued visa.
7. Track D-visa stay limits before planning another long stay.

Good Fit

This route is strongest for remote workers with stable income above the EUR 4,500/month benchmark, clear foreign employment or foreign-client evidence, and a temporary Estonia stay plan.

Poor Fit

It is usually a poor fit for applicants who need a residence permit, want long-term settlement from the start, cannot document 6 months of income, or think e-Residency itself creates travel or residence rights.
