Greece’s Digital Nomad Visa lets eligible non-EU remote workers live in Greece while working for employers, clients, or their own business outside Greece.

For stages and fees, see the timeline and costs guide. For evidence preparation, use the documents checklist. For family and renewal planning, read the family and renewal guide. The structured programme hub is Greece Digital Nomad Visa.

Quick Answer

Greece’s route is best suited to non-EU remote employees, freelancers, and self-employed people who earn at least EUR 3,500/month after taxes from work outside Greece and do not need Greek clients or employers. The visa can last up to 12 months, and a residence permit can be valid for up to 2 years and renewed for further 2-year periods if the applicant continues to qualify.

Who It Is For

The legal wording covers third-country nationals who are self-employed, freelancers, or employees able to work remotely through information and communication technologies for employers or clients outside Greece.

The route is not for people who will provide work, services, or projects to Greek employers or clients. Article 68 requires a declaration that the applicant will not provide work or services in any way to an employer established in Greece.

Visa And Residence Permit

The first stage is a national digital nomad visa issued by the competent Greek consular authority for up to 12 months.

Applicants who continue to meet the conditions may apply before the visa expires for a residence permit. Official Work From Greece material says the Digital Nomad Residence Permit can be valid for up to 2 years and renewed every 2 years.

Income Requirement

The main applicant must prove sufficient resources or salary of at least EUR 3,500/month after taxes.

The monthly amount increases by 20% for a spouse or cohabitant and by 15% for each child. For examples, see the income and work rules guide.

Good Fit / Poor Fit

Good fit if:

  • all work is for employers, clients, or a business outside Greece;
  • income is active remote-work income and above the after-tax threshold;
  • the applicant wants Greece as a temporary or renewable residence base;
  • no family member needs to work in Greece.

Poor fit if:

  • the applicant needs Greek clients or Greek employment;
  • income is passive or hard to connect to remote work;
  • family members need local work rights;
  • the applicant plans to apply from inside Greece as a tourist.

Practical Watchpoints

  • Work From Greece says in-country tourist-to-digital-nomad applications are no longer available as of February 5, 2026.
  • The income threshold is after taxes.
  • The spouse/cohabitant and children increments are additive.
  • Family members do not receive work rights in Greece.
  • A residence permit is a separate step from the initial visa.
  • Tax residence is separate from immigration approval.
