Slovakia does not offer a dedicated digital nomad visa. The most relevant structured alternative for independent operators is temporary residence for the purpose of business, usually connected to a trade licence, Commercial Register entry, company role, or other business basis.
This is not a simple permission to live in Slovakia while doing any remote job. The Ministry of Economy says business-residence applications are assessed for economic benefit, and since July 1, 2025 a business plan is a mandatory attachment to the first application.

Application Flow
- Decide whether the case is business residence, employment, Blue Card, visitor stay, family residence, or another route.
- Prepare a business plan and supporting proof of feasibility, sustainability, qualifications, customers, premises, suppliers, and economic contribution.
- Obtain or plan the trade licence, company role, Commercial Register entry, or other business basis.
- File the first temporary residence application at a Slovak diplomatic mission abroad.
- Prepare financial coverage for personal residence and business activity.
- Wait for the Foreign Police procedure, including the Ministry of Economy sub-opinion.
- Start or continue the Slovak business with tax, VAT, accounting, contract, and employee records aligned to the business plan.
- Renew only if the business is real and continues to support the residence basis.
Good Fit
This route is strongest for founders, consultants, sole traders, and owner-operators with a real Slovak business plan, credible qualifications, financial coverage, and evidence that the activity benefits the Slovak economy.
Poor Fit
It is usually a poor fit for foreign payroll employees, passive shareholders, virtual-only companies with no real Slovak activity, hobby freelancers, and applicants looking for a simple digital nomad permit.
