Romania Digital Nomad Visa

Romania’s Digital Nomad Visa is handled as a long-stay visa for other purposes, marked D/AS. It is for third-country nationals who keep earning income from a foreign employment contract or from activities through their own foreign-registered company while working remotely through information and communication technology.

The D visa is not the end state. It usually grants an initial 90-day right of stay, and the holder must extend residence inside Romania through the Inspectorate General for Immigration if they want to remain longer.

Application Flow

1. Confirm third-country nationality and whether a Romanian long-stay visa is required.
2. Confirm foreign employment or foreign-company ownership/management.
3. Recheck the current three-times-average-gross-salary threshold.
4. Prepare foreign contract/company, tax, income, criminal-record, insurance, accommodation, travel, passport, and photo evidence.
5. Submit through Romania’s eVisa process and present originals at the competent diplomatic mission or consular post if requested.
6. Enter Romania on the D/AS visa if approved.
7. Apply in person for extension of temporary residence at the territorial immigration office at least 30 days before the visa stay expires.
8. Track tax residence and local-work boundaries during the stay.

Good Fit

This route is strongest for high-earning remote employees and foreign company owners who can document foreign income, foreign tax compliance, clean criminal records, and a full residence-extension plan after arrival.

Poor Fit

It is usually a poor fit for applicants with low or irregular income, Romanian clients or employers as the main work source, weak foreign-company paperwork, or a plan to treat the 90-day D visa as the whole immigration process.
