Malta Nomad Residence Permit

Malta’s Nomad Residence Permit allows eligible third-country nationals to live in Malta while continuing remote work for employers, businesses, or clients outside Malta.

The permit is issued for one year and may be renewed three times, for a maximum stay of four years, if the applicant continues to meet the official criteria.

It is not a local work permit, permanent residence route, or citizenship route.

Application Flow

1. Confirm remote-work eligibility and income.
2. Prepare forms, passport copies, CV, income evidence, work proof, and police certificates.
3. Submit the application through Residency Malta Agency’s online system.
4. Pay the EUR 300 application fee per person after document checks.
5. Wait for processing and background checks.
6. If approved in principle, submit accommodation and health insurance.
7. Complete visa steps if required.
8. Travel to Malta, attend biometrics, and collect the residence card.

Good Fit

This programme is strongest for applicants who want a temporary Malta base, earn stable remote income from outside Malta, can document that income cleanly, and do not need the permit itself to become a permanent residence or citizenship route.

Poor Fit

It is usually a poor fit for applicants who need to work for Malta-based clients or employers, cannot meet the income threshold, want an immediate long-term settlement route, or cannot spend enough time in Malta to support renewal.
