Hungary’s EU Blue Card is salary-threshold driven. The Hungarian Card is category- and qualification-driven. That difference is the core route-choice filter for skilled workers.

For route choice, start with Hungary Hungarian Card vs EU Blue Card.

Blue Card Qualification Evidence

The EU Blue Card requires employment requiring a high level of professional qualification. NDGAP lists a preliminary agreement or employment contract for fixed-term employment of at least 6 months, plus a document certifying the higher education or professional qualification required for the job.

For executive officers and ICT specialists, Hungary’s Blue Card factsheet recognizes at least 3 years of relevant professional experience acquired within the 7 years before the Blue Card application as high-level professional qualification evidence.

Hungarian Card Qualification Evidence

The Hungarian Card is narrower in a different way. The applicant must fit one of the Hungarian Card categories: a minister-specified professional qualification, professional sportsperson or coach, performer, or qualifying film-production work. Owner/managing-director cases can also fit where the person performs actual work beyond ownership or management status.

For a regular high-skill employee, the Hungarian Card file should connect the preliminary agreement or work contract, job duties, professional qualification, and any certified translation requirements.

Translation And Recognition Caution

NDGAP material points to certified translations for qualification evidence in several employment contexts. Regulated professions can also require separate recognition or sector authorization. That is not solved by meeting the Blue Card salary threshold.
